A life-or-death election.

Since the time of Hitler, civilization has never been so close to the brink of total catastrophe. This American election will decide whether civilization as we know it will survive. As much as economic questions are currently front and center, with blame to go all round, this is not an election primarily about corporate greed, or individuals living beyond their means, or government neglect of economic oversight. Nor is it about whether we should have gone into Iraq where, like it or not, American boots on the ground have begun to create an emerging democracy. This election is about whether there will be a nuclear holocaust.

Alarmist? I sure hope so. Isn’t it about time that we got to the point about the stakes in this election? How many more pundits do we have to watch talking about the minutae — a candidate’s look, an accent, a stumble, a slogan? We have four weeks to talk about the thing that matters most: a nuclear-armed Iran, and which candidate will prevent it.

On September 11, 2001, this nation was attacked by an enemy whose vision of the future, whose culture and value system, and whose concepts of life and death are a universe apart from ours. In Gaza City earlier this month, an Israeli air strike killed two Hamas terrorists who were about to launch missiles at the Israeli cities of Sderot and Ashkelon. One of those killed was a son of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Haya. At the funeral of his son, al-Haya said, "I thank God for this gift. This is the 10th member of my family to be martyred". And in Pakistan, a jihadist wrapped a baby in an explosive belt and detonated it killing scores of Muslims.

If it is not yet clear, the rules of war have changed. Until this enemy is vanquished, there can be no Islamic Renaissance. And unless this enemy is vanquished, the horrors of the 20th century will pale in the face of what lies ahead.

Whether we choose to believe it or not, we are engaged in the defining ideological war of the 21st century. But to defeat this enemy, we must first understand it, so let me begin with some history.

Historically, the enormous changes in the West that took place during and after the Renaissance in the 16th century barely made a ripple in the Arab world, and only with the dawn of the 20th century did the Arabs finally begin to realize the implications of their backwardness at which point, they chose to portray themselves as victims, searching for scapegoats and excuses rather than confront their own inadequacies.

The Jerusalem Post is reporting that a joint US-Israel report will soon confirm that Saddam's WMD have been found in Syria, just as we right-wing wackos have always suspected:

An upcoming joint US-Israel report on the September 6 IAF strike on a Syrian facility will claim that former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein transferred weapons of mass destruction to the country, Channel 2 stated Monday.

Furthermore, according to a report leaked to the TV channel, Syria has arrested 10 intelligence officials following the assassination of Hizbullah terror chief Imad Mughniyeh.

Yesterday Dutch parliament debated Fitna (NL). They of course did not debate the fact that Al’Qaeda together with many other Muslims wanted to kill Geert Wilders for making the film. Neither they talked about how terror states like Iran joined the other Dutch elites in support of condemning the film. They did not even mention the fact that The Netherlands had never before seen so many foreign interventions in its internal affairs since WWII. Nor did anybody mention in the debate how strange a phenomenon it was that Muslim go riot for cartoons and movies but never against terrorism it self.

The initiative for this long-winded debate came from the Christian Democrats. They are the largest party in the current coalition government and have delivered the prime minister. It’s was damage control, their Prime Minister was under attack for declaring a crisis even before the film was released.

As expected the debate showed that Dutch political elites oppose the idea that Islam is in it self a totalitarian movement that should be opposed. Dutch elites think that facts as presented in a film like Fitna should always serve a higher purpose. To them, truth is not a lofty goal in itself. Truth is something utilitarian to them. Thus they rejected Fitna’s facts and just blamed Geert Wilders for not contributing to a peaceful resolution.

But even in their opposition to the movie, they reveal their fear of Islam. Leader of the ruling Christian Democrats (CDA) in parliament, van Geel, declared Fitna: “vicious, needlessly offensive, not helping in the fight against terrorism, nor the integration of Muslims [in Dutch society]”. To add not much later by saying to Wilders: “you don’t have any solutions. That’s the problem. You invoke forces that are uncontrollable.”

Uncontrollable forces? That’s an interesting line of argumentation. According to van Geel: making a film that shows the link between terror and Islam, is not factual, but creates it self an uncontrollable force? What kind of force might that be? Let me guess: an Islamic terrorist force?

It becomes even stranger if his Christian Democratic colleague, current Prime Minister Balkenende in the same debate criticizes Fitna by praising the film Obsession. Really!

Passerby finds anti-terror force's plans discarded on Bank Street

Plans showing the layout of a new building for a Canadian Forces counter-terrorism unit based in Trenton, Ont., have been found in a pile of garbage on Bank Street.

The 26 blueprints, stamped with Department of National Defence markings, show everything from the location of the security fence to the floor plan of the new home of the Canadian Joint Incident Response Unit at CFB Trenton.

The unit is the military's main responder to a terrorist attack using a weapon of mass destruction.

The plans also show the electrical grid scheme for the unit's computers and details about sewer systems, areas for workshops, sea container loading docks, and offices for the unit's various troops. There is also a blueprint for the storage bay for the unit's robots, which are designed to detect chemical and biological agents.

There are no markings that indicate the documents -- printed on March 5, 2007 -- are classified as secret, but military officials yesterday acknowledged the seriousness of the security breach.

After being informed by the Citizen about the blueprints, the Defence Department immediately launched an investigation into how the plans found their way into a pile of trash in the Glebe.

No Defence Department buildings are in the immediate area where the documents were found and there is the possibility the blueprints had been thrown out by a government employee or a worker involved in the construction of the new building.

The blueprints were found March 13 by the spouse of Anthony Salloum, an analyst with the Rideau Institute, the left-leaning Ottawa think-tank. As the couple were on their way to dinner, Mr. Salloum's spouse noticed a large pile of garbage bags on the sidewalk, on top of which sat seven large rolled tubes of paper stamped with Defence Department markings.

"I thought they looked interesting, but we were headed to dinner, so I figured I'd pick one up on the way back if they were still there," said Mr. Salloum.

The blueprints were still sitting in the garbage an hour or so later, so Mr. Salloum took one of the rolls. He doesn't know what happened to the rest of the rolls.

Back at the office, he briefly examined the blueprints, 26 in all, which were rolled together, but didn't comprehend fully what he was looking at. At first, officials at the Rideau Institute, which have been critical of the government's defence policy and the Afghan war, thought the plans, with their 8 Wing CFB Trenton designation, showed new roadwork at the base.

The documents then sat untouched for a week in the corner of Mr. Salloum's office.

Institute officials showed the blueprints to the Citizen yesterday and the newspaper was able to determine they were for the new counter-terrorism building. Each page is marked "National Defence, Project No. IE070599, NBCD Company, 8 Wing, Trenton, electrical site plan."

NBCD Company was the name of the joint incident response unit up until last year.

The Canadian Joint Incident Response Unit handles "Jack Bauer-24" type scenarios, according to its officers. It provides a national response for chemical, biological and radioactive threats, whether it be tracking down and dealing with a weapon of mass destruction or collecting and cataloguing evidence that might be used in court to prosecute terrorists for creating or setting off such a device.

Dutch national investigative services arrested a 26-year-old Pakistani national on Thursday night suspected of planning an attack in Western Europe.

ROTTERDAM – Dutch national investigative services arrested a 26-year-old Pakistani national on Thursday night suspected of planning an attack in Western Europe.

He allegedly belongs to an international terrorist network, the national office of the public prosecutor announced Friday.

Justice officials say there are no indications the man was involved in the planning of attacks in the Netherlands. The network he reportedly belongs to has made preparations in the past for a suicide attack in Barcelona.

That attack would reportedly be directed at supporters of assassinated Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto.

The Spanish authorities announced earlier they had disrupted these preparations with a number of arrests in January. The Spaniards suspected that the terrorist organization also wanted to commit attacks in France, Portugal, Germany, and the UK.

The national investigation services started the investigation into the Pakistani arrested last night at the end of January, based on information from the general intelligence and security service (AIVD).

The suspect has been in the Netherlands since September 2007 and was enrolled in a 4-year professional education programme, the prosecutor reports. "He didn't attend many classes for the programme. He mainly worked as a house painter."

Police have had the man under surveillance since the start of the investigation. The prosecution department decided to have him arrested in order to prevent terrorist activities.

The Pakistani will be arraigned in Rotterdam on Monday.

How sick and depraved are the people who do THIS to their kids. And, in our multicultural, PC world were supposed to believe this culture is equal to ours, sorry but I just don't believe it and, neither should you.

The fundamental premise of much scholarly examination and public discourse is that grievances with U.S. policies in the Middle East motivate Islamist terrorism. Such assumptions, though, misunderstand the enemy and its nature. In reality, the conflict is sparked not by grievance but rather by incompatibility between Islamist ideology and the natural rights articulated during the European Enlightenment and incorporated into U.S. political culture. Acquiescing to political grievances will not alter the fundamental incompatibility between Lockean precepts of tolerance and current interpretations of Islam: Only Islam's fundamental reform will resolve the conflict.

Many scholars mark the post-World War I partition of the Ottoman Empire as the origin of Islamist opposition to the West.[1] The idea that the Middle East would be a tolerant, prosperous contributor to the global environment today if World War I victors had left intact the Ottoman Empire is a premise in the literature accompanying the rise of twentieth-century jihadism. Historian David Fromkin argued in his influential A Peace to End All Peace that present day Muslim unrest is the direct result of Winston Churchill's early twentieth-century decisions.[2] British journalist Robert Fisk also holds British officials responsible although he prefers to blame Arthur Balfour, foreign secretary between 1916 and 1919.[3] Both authors are wrong, though, to base their theories of grievance on such arbitrary demarcation of eras. The roots of jihadism and its opposition to the United States as part of the non-Muslim West were cast long before World War I erupted. The interaction between the United States and Muslim states and societies dates back to American independence.[4] Contemporary jihadism is not the result of accumulated grievance; rather it has for cultural reasons been an integral factor in Islamic societies' interaction with the United States.
The Die is Cast

Almost immediately after independence, the U.S. government found itself in conflict with the Barbary sheikdoms of Morocco, Tunis, Algiers, and Tripoli. For centuries, these states filled their coffers by piracy, stealing cargoes, enslaving crew, and collecting ransom. European sea-going nations often entered into treaty and tribute arrangements with the Barbary leaders in order to buy immunity and curtail competition.[5] In 1784, Moroccan pirates hijacked the U.S. merchant ship Betsy in the Mediterranean and enslaved her crew. A year later, Algerine pirates seized two more vessels, the Maria from Boston and the Dauphin from Philadelphia. The U.S. ministers to England and France, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson oversaw a peace treaty with Morocco, but the Algerine leadership refused any accommodation. In 1796, President George Washington ordered construction of six warships to form a U.S. navy and to protect U.S. shipping from Barbary pirates. In 1801, in the wake of an upsurge in piracy, President Thomas Jefferson entered into war with Tripoli, bombarding the city three years later and winning the release of American hostages.[6] Peace did not last. With the U.S. military embroiled in the War of 1812, Algerine pirates again began terrorizing American crewmen and disrupting U.S. trade. They miscalculated. In 1815, President James Madison dispatched a squadron of U.S. Navy frigates, which defeated the pirate fleet and won reparations from Algiers, Tunis, and Tripoli.[7]

Shadow Warriors on WMD in Iraq

Kenneth Timmerman’s new book, Shadow Warriors: The Untold Story of Traitors, Saboteurs, and the Party of Surrender, is a potent assault on the enemy within. The late great U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Jeanne Kirkpatrick once reflected upon her role in the war against the Communist bloc and its sycophants by remarking, “We understood that our words were weapons.” Now, in a world where ubiquitous Internet-bound words penetrate every private salon from Tehran to Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Timmerman has detonated a rhetorical bunker buster.

Thanks to an unprecedented four-year propaganda offensive, most Americans have concluded that Saddam Hussein’s Iraq had no relationship with al Qaeda and that it had no programs aimed at developing chemical, biological or nuclear weapons. Timmerman easily eviscerates this version of conventional wisdom by quoting King Abdullah II of Jordan, who, on April 17, 2004, informed the world that his intelligence agency foiled a plot by al Qaeda to bring in from Syria 20 tons of Iraqi-made sarin gas and detonate it in the capital city of Amman. Estimates were that it would have killed 20,000 people, seven times 9/11, and eliminated the American embassy as well. It was stunning evidence that Iraq had not only moved stockpiles of WMD to Syria before the invasion but that the remnants of Saddam’s regime retained an operational link to al Qaeda. “It was a major, major operation,” King Abdullah said. “It would have decapitated the government.”

Some passages in Shadow Warriors take on the aspect of a John LeCarre Cold War thriller. For example, the book makes public for the first time reports that were sent to Deputy Undersecretary of Defense John Straw (one of the book’s few good guys) by a British spy, Stephen, a self-styled “Lawrence of Arabia,” who was on the ground inside Iraq in the weeks prior to the U.S.-led invasion and who saw the evacuation, cleanup and transportation of WMD stockpiles and production equipment. Stephen was able to observe the operation being conducted by non-uniformed Russian special forces (Spetsnatz) who loaded the drums of chemicals and biotoxins on huge 18-wheelers and shipped them to destinations inside Syria and Lebanon. Amazingly, Stephen’s network was so good that he was able to track the shipments to specific villages in Syria or to hospitals in Beirut and, in some cases, even to the specific doctor who received the drums. Straw also got corroborating reports of the Russian evacuation operation directly from the Ukrainian head of intelligence, Gen. Ihor Smeshko, whose agency refused to work with the CIA or any conventional U.S. intelligence agencies for fear of leaks that would, in turn, result in great political peril. The Ukrainians reported to Straw that the former head of the KGB, Yevgeny Primakov, who had a long-standing business relationship with Saddam Hussein, headed up the WMD evacuation operation and even learned its code name, Sarandar (Russian for emergency exit).

While the true import of the Amman interdiction and the King’s statements went largely underreported by the Western media, it gives extra gravity to Timmerman’s thesis because it demonstrates just how treacherous are the shadow warriors—the Bush enemies who, for much of this decade, have sought to undermine the administration’s war effort from their shadowy positions inside the CIA, State Department, Justice Department, the media, congressional staffs and even the Pentagon. Among other things, the book makes clear that these shadow warriors have no moral standing, because they have been guilty of working to undermine a legitimate war, a war in which Iraq is only one theater and in which the West is pitted against a very lethal enemy.

Someone noted that running U.S. foreign policy has a level of difficulty roughly equal to that of playing chess in three dimensions. Many of Timmerman’s readers will likely wonder why Bush did not make use of the reports sent from the British spy Stephen, documenting the Russian WMD evacuations, or the reports from Gen. Georges Sada, the former head of the Iraq air force, who, after the fall of Baghdad, returned to his native land and interviewed numerous pilots who flew WMD’s into Syria.

Why would President Bush have wanted the information to be buried when it could have vindicated him after suffering such a massive propaganda offensive waged by the media and their allies, the shadow warriors? The question might be answered definitively only by future historians, but Shadow Warriors poses a chilling and timely theory—Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney thought the reason was Iran. “With Iran moving faster than anyone thought in its nuclear programs, the administration needed the Russians, the Chinese and the French, and was not interested in information that would make them look bad.”

'Quran - Hunting License'

AMSTERDAM - The Dutch chairman of the Muslim Council, Abdelmajid Khairoun, fears street violence and says Geert Wilders' now certainly in danger. " Okay Pala, leader of the radical movement Hizb ut-Tahrir (Liberation Party), even draws a comparison with the fate of Theo van Gogh. And the grand-mufti of Syria, with a visit to the European Parliament threatened that Wilders should be held responsible if his film about the Quran leads to "violence and bloodshed".

"What exaggerated reactions from all," said arabist Hans Jansen this week. "But perhaps we should be concerned. This Grand mufti is an official of the Syrian state, who is in a manner of speaking, dressing as an Imam." So the words of the Syrian are ominous in a sense, says Jansen. "If there is one country that could now benefit by the occurrence of riots, it is most likely Syria. The country has many problems. And protests against an anti-Quran film distract nicely." As in other Arab countries, according Jansen, whole batteries of officials, maintained in Damascus, are involved in creating just such strategies. "These officials make policy, they are not really concerned about an afterlife in hell-fire."

The cartoon riots in 2006 were also driven by Arab regimes. "Images of the prophet Mohammed are already prohibited by Islam," says Jansen. "In this respect, the plan by Jami Ehsan to make a movie about the prophet is perhaps much more dangerous." Hans Jansen has a reputation as one of the most critical arabists. He studied in the sixties in the Egyptian capital Cairo, and he later - early eighties - return as director of the Dutch Institute. On his office wall in Amsterdam hangs an aged and faded picture from that time, Jansen with a well known Imam. "A nice man, but downright fundamentalist."

Jansen, since 2003 a professor for "modern Islamic thought' at the University of Utrecht, is putting the finishing touches on a new book: "read the Quran yourself”, which is expected to be published in April. "The Koran for Muslims is God's word, God's voice here on earth. No wonder that any criticism is viewed very sensitively. Even the prophet is sacred. Criticism is always immediately and vehemently suppressed, especially if the suggestion is that Mohamed himself has invented everything in the Quran. Westerners are all guilty of insulting Islam, merely by being non-Muslim. And because we exist, we deny that the Quran is God's word. Saying that everything was invented (made up) by Mohamed, is seen as a completely unacceptable insult. "

In May 2004, a half year before the murder of Theo van Gogh, Jansen spoke to the committee for Foreign Affairs of the Lower House on the fight against terrorism. He then declared among other things: "Quran and Bible both do not speak positively about the enemies of God. Nonetheless, there is a difference. The difference lies in that some groups of militant Muslims view the Quran as a hunting license, regarding it as a kind of license to kill, while in the Bible, that function has been lost in the world of Christianity. " The Quran as a hunting license, was not only the inspiration for Mohammed Bouyeri, but also led to 9 / 11 and a whole series of smaller attacks, such as the assassination of Egyptian President Sadat in 1981.

Jansen: "Non-Muslims and others in the Muslim world, must be slain according militants. The Quran speaks of fighting in the cause of death. Example, the Koran says about the unbelievers: “Kill them where thee finds them. And that is repeated twice more elsewhere”. According to Jansen, it is a weakness when the critics of Geert Wilders will not discuss the content of the Quran. In that respect, he also criticizes historian Geert Mak, who after the murder of Van Gogh, published the booklet 'Vulnerability of the Damned'. "Mak doubted if the Quran is indeed very specific about the duty to kill unbelievers."

He grabs the book and points to page 59. "Here a clearly annoyed Mak writes: 'As if in the Quran would be a recipe for the slaughter of religious opponents." Well, what do we read in Quran 8:12? "then chop down into the necks of the unbelievers, and each phalanx. "An obvious recipe, I think, also for Mohammed Bouyeri." Islam is also different from other religions because of the concept of 'jihad'. Jansen: "Contrary to what some would have us believe, it is really not primarily for bettering oneself. Jihad is the struggle for the triumph of Islam and is simply tantamount to the use of violence against unbelievers."

Alternative

Jihadisten see Islam as an alternative to democracy. As Okay Pala of Hizb ut-Tahrir recently told the newspaper De Telegraaf: "We do not agree with the freedom of expression, because we reject democracy! Our alternative is Islam. There is no middle: we choose the absolute truth, the word of Allah”. According to Jansen, the radicalization is fed by petrodollar fueled 'wahhabiism from Saudi Arabia, now referred to as salafiism. The ultraorthodox version of Islam, that in the Netherlands is driven from four well-known mosques. The arabist believes that Muslims who advocate jihad unduly abuse our religious freedom. "Islam is not dangerous because of the holy book. The danger comes from people who, by virtue of what the Quran says, see themselves as God and having the right to decide about the life and death of others. Those who want to use violence to have their religion dominate, should be excluded from religious freedom.

As if the battle against terrorists isn't hard enough, outright, flagrant corruption in Afghanistan is setting some Taliban, convicted with lengthy sentences, free.

Corruption, which is rampant in most Muslim nations, is allowing terrorists to buy their way out jail faster than the coalition can put them in.

Taliban commander buys his Freedom, Again

KABUL - A high ranking Taliban commander has bought his freedom from an Afghan prison for the third time in three years . Mullah Sorkh Naqaibullah claims his latest release cost him 10,000 euros($14,800.00) to buy off corrupt officials and leave his cell.

The man, nicknamed the Red Mullah, told the British broadcaster BBC that he in similarly fashion escaped lengthy detention sentences in 2004 and 2005. He is especially active in Helmand province, where British soldiers are operating.

He was last arrested in July of last year. He served 5 months of a lengthy sentence before buying his way out, and is already leading new operations against NATO soldiers in the district of Gereshk.

The international community that is trying to secure and rebuild Afghanistan has been complaining for years about the flagrant corruption in the Asian country. The BBC reported Tuesday that after this latest embarrassing incident, an official investigation has begun.

Brussels - Belgian security authorities believe that a terrorist attack on the country is possible over Christmas after 14 suspected extremists detained earlier in the week were released, the Interior Ministry said on Saturday.

The country's security services have been put on a higher alert level until January 2, but citizens have been told that there is no need to panic.

Reinforced police patrols are to operate in public places, such as Christmas markets, shopping areas and bus and train stations.

Security personnel at the capital's transport companies have been placed on elevated alert as is normally the case when EU summits are held in Brussels.

The 14 suspected Islamic extremists were released overnight after being held on suspicion of planning to break a former footballer, Nizar Trabelsi, out of the prison to which he was condemned for 10 years for planning an attack on a Belgian military base in 2001.

A spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office said that searches of the suspects' homes had uncovered documents but no weapons or explosives.

One of the detainees was the widow of a suicide attacker who in 2001 killed Ahmed Shah Masud, who as head of Afghanistan's Northern Alliance had been fighting the Islamist extremist Taliban in central Asian country.

"We had sufficient evidence for a terrorist threat and therefore did not hesitate to arrest suspects," the spokesperson said.

No need to panic the populace though, after all this is "The Religion of Peace" we're talking about, just go back to sleep.

Muslim plans to broadcast a loudspeaker call to prayer from a city centre mosque have been attacked by local residents who say it would turn the area into a "Muslim ghetto".

Dozens of people packed out a council meeting to express their concerns over the plans for a two-minute long call to prayer to be issued three times a day, saying that it could drown out the traditional sound of church bells.

But a spokesman for the Central Mosque said that Muslim's also have the right to summon worshippers.

"We don't want to do anything that will disturb the people or upset the people." Sardar Rana, said a spokesman for the Central Mosque

NO, not upset or disturb them. Just get the filthy Kuffars of Britain used to the sounds of their new medieval overlords.

KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- Insurgents here have booby-trapped two human corpses with bombs recently, killing two Afghan civilians in Kandahar Province, says a spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.

An improvised explosive device concealed by an Afghan decapitated by insurgents killed two civilians and wounded two others on Dec. 21, after they discovered the body in a cemetery outside Kandahar City, ISAF Brig.-Gen. Carlos Branco said Monday.

A second booby-trapped dead body of a man was discovered about 18 kilometres from the first, just outside of Kandahar City, on December 23. It caused no casualties.
